Role Overview:

As an Assistant Accountant you will be the main point of contact for our clients. You will have responsibility for your own client base, and will be expected to build a good rapport with your clients by gaining an understanding of their business.

You will provide email and telephone support, responding to all requests as swiftly and efficiently as possible, in accordance with our client promise. You will be required to adapt your working practices to suit each client’s individual needs.


Role and Responsibilities:

  • Creating and maintaining client files, including the coordination and management of administration duties
  • Producing a monthly profit and loss breakdown from documents provided to you by the client (only if included within service package)
  • Completing periodic reviews of client’s files to ensure that information is being recorded and allocated correctly (only if included within service package)
  • Calculating liabilities such as PAYE and VAT, ensuring RTI requirements are met
  • Preparation and submission of P11d’s
  • Preparation/reconciliation/explanation of annual accounts, closure accounts and Corporation Tax computations to draft stage
  • Ensuring your clients meet all their filing deadlines, providing reminders to clients where necessary
  • Communicating with HMRC on behalf of clients
  • Demonstrate knowledge of technical and professional standards to carry out specific tasks within team
  • Deliver excellent service to internal and external clients
  • Meets the Group quality standards on technical work produced
  • Work efficiently with an understanding of how own role contributes to the success of the business
  • Growing the business through referrals (partner referrals, PSC referrals and TrustPilot online reviews)
  • To undertake any other duties as requested by your line manager within the scope of the role


Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Essential: A to C grade (or equivalent) in GCSE English and Mathematics
  • Desirable: Completed or working towards AAT and/or minimum one year’s practical experience


Skills and Experience Required:


  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Accuracy & attention to detail
  • Good time management and organisation skills
  • Competent in the use of Excel, Word, and E-mail
  • Ability to build strong working relationships both internally and externally
  • Ability to meet targets under time constraints


  • Detailed knowledge of HMRC guidelines
  • Knowledge of accountancy software packages such as Digita, FreeAgent, IRIS and Sage Payroll
